Thank you for improving the player over the past couple of years!! Thank you for adding the rating of songs. The player now is just as good as iTunes if not better since I can access all my music remotely. Its a dream come true. Thank you!

Being "free" its hard to justify any criticism of this app. However, while DS Audio is an ok player, it makes finding and listening to music a lot of work. You cant simply hit a button to have it stream random songs continuously. Instead, you always have to create a playlist -- even if you want just one song. Be sure to clear the old playlist first as the app remembers it. There is a "Random 100" playlist, but it will generate the same random 100 until you *completely* quit the app and try again. If you want to add a individual songs youll have to navigate to each one and add it to the playlist. But when you click a song, the whole album is unintuitively added to the playlist. Youll need to bring up a secondary menu by carefully clicking an icon to add single songs. The workaround to these usability problems is to make playlists for everything -- and spend time to maintain those lists as your library grows. This has been an issue for a long time (early versions of this app didnt have these problems) and I was disappointed years ago when support responded to my inquiry about the degraded usability by suggesting that I make playlists. With the announcement of improved usability in this new version I was really hoping for it to be better.
Great improvements overall.
No ability to use playlists in offline mode! I cant believe such basic functionality is absent. I would have rated 1 star, but I do love many other aspects, including the ability to navigate through the use of tags and folders.
This app works well on my iPhone 5 / iOS 8.1 I wish it had the ability to do a few more things (like automatically sync my music) but I must say--for the price I paid Im happy.
Love the revamped look and added functionalities ! Great job!
Works so good I had to retire my iPod classic...
I listen to music a lot, so I am always looking for the best wireless options. I think this app is better than ITunes Remote, because DS Audio has: • Streaming right to device • Streams over 3G • Browse by folder • Add to queue However, when at home, I normally use iTunes (except when streaming to device rather than speakers). Here is why I use iTunes remote when I can: • When you open playlists, DS displays results by album, not by tracks. This is very annoying because I use the Recently Added playlist most of the time. When last song of album is played music stops until I manually pick new song. Also, cant use random feature. iTunes shows results by track. • There is no Genius or Auto DJ type feature. It would be nice to have some sort of automatic selection based on the type of music I select • Lastly, I cant scrobble from Last.Fm. I like keeping track of all the music I listen to, but about 50% of the music I listen too currently is not included because it is streamed through this app. Overall, I love the app, and I definitely appreciate the regular updates, and I hope to see these enhancements some day
I own Synology DS and I LOVE both hardware AND software! What I like most in this particular app is that it allows playing audio and reading lyrics at the same time (though these have to be present in the file) - something I still dont see in every app. I have one request, though. It would be nice to have an option to prevent deletion of some downloaded songs, i.e. mark them permanent, not temporary files.
Last night I left my laptop copying my itunes library to the NAS and today Im loving streaming music to my airplay device and even to my chromecasts!! Awesome.
I transferred all my music from hard drive to DS215j NAS and our family of five can easily play on our windows, Mac, iPhone and Kindle devices. They all love the app!
This iOS app is a great companion app to the respective Synology package it works with. That said it can use a few improvements. * it should display album art when included, and offer an option to fetch from internet sources when not embedded in the file * The ability to "stop" AirPlay playback instead of pausing. Having a stop button feature will allow connected AirPlay devices to go to sleep automatically as opposed to pausing where they remain powered online indefinitely. * the ability to add, edit or delete custom internet radio streams * the ability to receive and display album/station artwork from custom internet radio streams Bonus: it would be great if the respective Synology package could function as an AirPlay receiver and then stream any given audio source (Pandora, Spotify, iTunes music, etc) to multiple AirPlay or DLNA clients.
So to take advantage of this version of DS Audio requires Audio Station 5.4, which is not yet available.
Finally! The feature needed to make this the best app possible..OFFLINE PLAYLISTS!! Thank you, Synology for adding this functionality. Its much appreciated!
I just got my Synology NAS up, and thought I would test out this app, even though I planned on using something else (like plex). This app is solid, looks great, and works really well so far.
I have a lot of digitized music that I can finally hear again thanks to the DS audio app and Audio Station 5.4. Make sure you get Audio Station 5.4-2822 (beta) or higher. Previous versions had issues with music stopping or skipping in the queue. This version fixed all of these problems. Downloading a playlist untethers you from Wi-Fi so that you can play music while on the go. One request would be to search your playlist for a song to make sure you dont already have it. Another is to have a way to alphabetized a playlist by song or by artist.
I have no way of accessing my folders, which were divided by format and bit rates. This work took weeks of my time, and was the perfect set up. Suddenly, without being asked or warned, all my folders are gone, and I have just a list of artists (even in the folders view). What kind of arrogance allows you to decide for me how I should be able to divide my music collection? If anyone knows of a better app, please let me know!!
I stream all of my music to my phone with his app, and it works well but I really think that having some sort of a built in equalizer would really improve the sound. Thats pretty much the only thing that I miss from the standard iPhone music app.
add ability to make multiple playlists within app This app needs more functionality
I have written app support multiple times with suggestions and have never received a response. Updates seem to only address security. To make it a five star app: -Needs a SEARCH bar at the top of the "all songs" tab. -Needs a SEARCH bar (for songs) in playlists. Seriously, cant search a playlist...come on!? -Playlist sync feature. Maybe downloaded playlists can be synced back to server on wifi -Should NOT allow duplicates within the same playlist -Needs a "no streaming option" in the menu (so a user can thwart cell data usage) -Replace composer tab with audiobook tab.-More responsive customer service -Allow users to add a song to more than a single playlist at one time -More intuitive icons: never remember the difference between adding by to playlist or que
